Lopez Union Cemetery

Traditional (casket) plots are available for $1200. A casket plot can hold one casket and four cremation burials, or six cremation burials.

 

The urn garden plots hold one cremation burial and cost $700.

    A new, third option is now available -- terramation, or human  composting. Funeral homes that offer terramation compost a body in a mix of alfalfa, straw, wood, and other natural materials. The process takes about two months and results in about a cubic yard of compost that resembles fine bark. The material can be added to landscaping like any other compost. Lopez Union Cemetery has created a Terramation Garden, a raised bed with trees, bushes and other plantings, where terramation remains can be spread. Our cemetery doesn’t have space for “green burials” but this is an environmentally sound option that contributes to our natural world.  During the creation of the bed an exceptionally large rock was found, placed upright, and polished on one side to allow for a memorial listing of those placed here. The cost for the Terramation Garden is $1200.
